Write and publish documents

Documents are the output layer of newsence. Every document belongs to a Workspace. You can write from a blank page or let AI create and edit content from your research material.

Open the Create menu in the sidebar and choose New document. If you do not have a Workspace yet, newsence asks you to create one first.

You can also ask explicitly in AI Chat:

Create a research brief from the current sources. Organize the main conclusions, disagreements, and citations.

If there is no suitable Workspace, AI attempts to create one. When you have reached your plan’s Workspace limit, newsence shows an upgrade prompt first.

The editor supports headings, bold, italic, strikethrough, inline code, highlights, links, task lists, and images.

Changes save automatically. The status beside the title shows:

  • Unsaved changes
  • Saving
  • The last saved time
  • Couldn’t save
  • Document changed elsewhere

The browser also keeps a temporary local draft for changes that have not reached the server. When you reopen the same document version, newsence attempts to restore it. Local recovery is not a substitute for a reliable connection and a successful server save.

Open Version history from the document toolbar to inspect versions created by autosave, AI edits, and manual restores.

Restoring an older version creates a new current version rather than deleting the versions in between. You can return to earlier content without losing the state that existed immediately before the restore.

An open document enters AI context automatically. You can ask AI to:

  • rewrite a specific section;
  • add a summary or conclusion;
  • make citations consistent;
  • add a section from Workspace resources;
  • turn the content into a social post or presentation outline.

AI edits display a change count and create version-history entries. Check citations, facts, and tone before publishing.

Documents begin as private drafts that only their owner can view. To publish a document:

  1. Create a username under Settings → Profile.
  2. Choose Share in the document toolbar.
  3. Enable Public sharing.
  4. Confirm the share URL, title, and description.
  5. Copy the share link.

Public document URLs follow this pattern:

newsence.app/{username}/{document-slug}

Anyone with the link can read a public document. Turning public sharing off makes that URL unavailable. Re-enabling sharing usually reuses the same URL.

Deletion is permanent and removes the document and its version history. If you only want to stop sharing it, turn off public sharing instead of deleting the document.
